  About Philosophy Café ...

Philosophy Café is an evening of free-spirited, thought provoking, and seriously fun discussion hosted by Mr. Lau Kwong Fook, our resident philosopher and a self-proclaimed futilitarian.   A typical session begins with the Philosopher sharing his selection of interesting headlines from the media, inviting participants' response, followed by a choice of topic to be discussed for the evening.  Starting with an opening question or inquiry, an interactive exchange of ideas amongst the participants ensues while the Philosopher facilitates to instill rigor and rationality in the process of inquiry.  For reports on past discussions, visit http://philocafesg.tripod.com/

Mr. Lau defines philosophy as "a rational and rigorous pursuit of truth".  According to him, a
Philosophy Café is ..

  • A place where all your ideas are taken seriously

  • An opportunity to travel at the speed of thought

  • A workout for your mind

  • A time when ignorance is an asset

  • A chance to study life, death, between and beyond

  • A time to answer queries you never thought you had

  • A time to wonder if unicorns are real

  • A chance to discover your own thoughts

  • An island of reason in an ocean of pride and prejudices

  • A time to reactivate a mind deadened by routine

  • A trek to explore the world of ideas

  • A chance to rediscover the child in you

  • An adventure you should try at least once in your life

  • An act that is better than sex - and you don't have to be at least 16
