  The Founders' Original Vision ...

Dear Friends of Gone Fishing,

The café is the fishing boat on which we set forth a journey to fish for ways to live meaningfully in the sea of life. It's our second home. Rightfully so, given that it is a place in which we spend the larger part of our wakeful hours. We envision the café as an 'open-house' for friends from all walks of life to meet and catch up, for neighbors and strangers to become friends, for friends to become lovers, for soul-mates to find each other, for like-minded individuals to exchange ideas, for parents of young children to share ideas on raising children and keeping the flames of marriage alive, for children to simply be children and remind adults of what they had forgotten, for mums and dads to bond with their children, for dreamers to find courage and inspiration to pursue their dreams, and for students and teachers of life to pass on their wisdom to others.

The café is a haven resulted from a search for warmth amidst the coldness of urban living, driven by a desire to create a 'kampung'-like atmosphere filled with warm, friendly and down-to-earth people. It is a place to discover and share the simple pleasures in life - gourmet Italian coffee, boutique Australian wine, home-style cuisine, music to jazz up lives, books to nourish the soul, all within the comfort of our home.

The café is a window for us to see the world, brought to us by you, our valued patrons and friends. It is a window through which we reach out and play an active part in the community, and hopefully learn and grow wiser while making a difference in your lives even in the smallest ways. Lastly, it is also our means to make a living while making a life. We thank you for your wonderful company and support for making this journey meaningful and possible.

We hope you have a pleasant 'fishing' trip experience too !

Best fishes,

Kenny and Mei Chin

  How it got started ...

The idea for Gone Fishing was first conceived during a holiday at Phuket, as a Jazz café to introduce Jazz music to the suburban neighborhood, where budding Jazz musician wannabes would jam and Jazz titles (books and CD’s) would be offered. As time went by, its founder discovered that it was not Jazz music that had powered his passion for starting a café, but the sense of liveliness that it evokes. The music faded into the background, while the drive to pursue the possibility of living a fulfilling and meaningful life took on greater significance. Hence, resulting in its initial motto “Live to fish. Fish to live”, signifying its function as a vessel to fish for ways to live meaningfully as well as to encourage others to live a full life.

  What's on the Menu ...

The café offers a wide range of food and beverage items, including premium boutique Australian wine, Italy’s favourite coffee (Lavazza), imported beers, fine selection of cakes, home-style cuisines, and some of the hot favorites that all new patrons must try: the tender and juicy Suzanne’s Roast Chicken, the unique and fusionistic Prata Wrap, and the best Almond Coffee in the world.

  Private Parties  ...

Small and cozy, Gone Fishing is a perfect place for holding private functions.  To date, it had hosted a small wedding party, several corporate dinners, birthdays and farewells, launch of a CD, and networking nights for parents. >>> more details
