 About Life Coaching ...

The essence of ‘Life Coaching’ is about unleashing the greatness within, enabling one to experience greater joy, meanings and fulfillment in life. I see coaching as a masterful integration of science and art.  As a practical discipline, coaching is a process aimed at helping one to develop greater self-awareness, responsibility and self-belief, enabling one to access the wealth of inner resources that one already possesses and enjoy more choices of actions for creating one's desired results in life.  As an art, coaching demands great a degree versatility, spontaneity and fluidity, conducted through empowering conversations based on mutual trust and respect.

The coach is neither an all-knowing 'guru' nor a living example of an enlightened soul, but a normal human being who has attained a high degree of personal mastery as well as competency in guiding others effectively through the process of self-discovery.  A key distinction between coaching and related fields such as teaching, counseling and therapy is that coaching is highly result-oriented and action-focused.  Being result-oriented involves looking ahead and creating new possibilities in the future, as opposed to looking backwards and trying to solve problems through detailed analysis of the root causes.  Being action-focused involves enabling and empowering one to take charge of oneself, be the creative force in one's life and transform one's dreams and goals into reality through taking appropriate actions.

In short, coaching is really about evoking the excellence or greatness within a person, as in awakening the giant or unleashing the power within, leaving one feeling more competent and more fulfilled in areas that are important in one's life.

What got me started on Life Coaching ...

My first encounter with coaching occurred in mid 2003, shortly after an 'epiphany' that significantly changed my life.  After leaving the comfort of a corporate career and journeying on the road less traveled for about a year, I experienced a sudden revelation on what my life is about: To live fully and help others live fuller lives.

I shared that awakening experience with a friend who is an enthusiast of personal development, and he introduced me to the world of life coaching, a relatively new field of practice that has been around for only slightly more than a decade.  Since then, I have been devoting a significant amount of time and energy to mastering the science and art of coaching through formal training in coaching, personal development seminars, intensive research, self-reflections, and regular practice.

Over these years, after coaching individuals from various walks of life, ranging from guiding young adults towards greater self-confidence and helping successful professionals in mid-life to find meanings and a sense of direction in life,  I am truly grateful to have come upon such an empowering discipline that enables me to do what I am here for.  I would encourage anyone who is interested in personal development to explore the benefits of coaching, either to coach or be coached.
